Professor Ellerbrock was formerly assistant vice president for Academic Affairs at East Texas State University, where he received the Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. He has been editor of the AAEA Newsletter and serves on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Council on Economic Education. He has also received the Virginia Tech University SPORN Award and the Southern Agricultural Economics Annual Teaching Award. Mike also was awarded the 2002 USDA/NASULGC National Award for Teaching Excellence for all fields of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Human and Veterinary Sciences.

Professor Ellerbrock conducts training in conflict resolution via the Virginia Natural Resources Leadership Institute.

Professor Ellerbrock is also the Head of the Center for Economic Education at Virginia Tech.
