David Orden is serving during 2007-2010 as Director of the Global Issues Initiative (GII) of Virginia Tech’s Institute for Society, Culture and Environment (ISCE) and as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington DC. His IFPRI contact information is:

David joined the department faculty in 1984. His areas of interest emphasize the political economy of agriculture, international trade policy, and macroeconomic impacts on trade. His research has also focused on the determinants and effects of various technical barriers to international agricultural trade, and the resolution of trade disputes in the World Trade Organization. During 1998-99, he was visiting professor in the Department of Economics and the Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. He was a resident fellow at the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy in Washington D.C. in 1990, and visiting fellow at the School of Economics, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 1990-91. He served in 1996 and 1997 as chairman of the International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium (IATRC). His 1999 book Policy Reform in American Agriculture: Analysis and Prognosis received the American Agricultural Economics Association’s Quality of Communication Award in August 2000.
