James W. Pease |
Pease joined the faculty in 1988. He conducts education and applied research programs focused on the profitability of agricultural businesses, the efficiency of water quality protection policies, and economic development in rural areas of Virginia. Current projects include development of data-based decision aids for reducing watershed nutrient imbalances, analysis of the potential for bio-energy production and processing capacity in Virginia, and development of policies to promote regional economic development in Southside and Southwest Virginia. He has received awards for his programs from the Soil and Water Conservation Society, USDA Farm Services Agency, Virginia Cooperative Extension Agents' Association, Southern Extension Forester Resource Specialists Organization, and the Southern Agricultural Economics Association.
Professor Pease served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras and has consulted with USAID, Winrock International, Abt Associates, and other national and international organizations. He a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee of the Chesapeake Bay Program, and the Advisory Committee of the Southern Extension Risk Management Center. He grew up on a small cash grain-livestock farm in Iowa.
