Useful Software

Below are links to applications and security software for you to download on your home computer.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0

This application allows you to view PDF files, but not create/edit them. In order to create or edit PDFs, you must have Adobe Professional, which we cannot provide for free for use on your home computers, but it is available for the department computers. This is just the PDF reader.

Symantec AntiVirus

This program is the same AntiVirus software that is used all over campus and is free to Virginia Tech employees. In order to get the latest version, log in to Virginia Tech's download center to download a copy. If you need help installing it, please refer to the security tutorials page. You will need this software if you plan to connect to the VPN.

Windows Defender

Windows Defender is an excellent program for finding and removing malicious spyware, adware, trojans, etc.. The program is available for download here, and instructions for installing can be found on the security tutorials page.
